The Slots City Foundation has started assisting in humanitarian demining
The foundation has opened a new direction of work – providing assistance to Ukrainian sappers in humanitarian demining of the territory of Ukraine. The first assistance project is aimed at demining the liberated territory of Kyiv region. Foundation volunteers helped sappers purchase vehicles, drones, equipment, and gear, and volunteers also conducted repairs on the equipment.
The first stage of demining in the Makariv district of the Kyiv region will begin in March. The area where the sappers will work covers about 300 hectares and is divided into two parts. To initiate processes according to international standards of humanitarian demining, certified specialists are surveying the territory, transmitting this data to the state Mine Action Center, where all work is recorded on an electronic map. Based on this information, the territory is marked, and sappers begin their dangerous and meticulous work.
“For our foundation, this new direction is extremely important,” says Artem Stohniy, director of the Slots City Foundation. “We are not only helping to free our land from invaders but also returning reclaimed fields to peaceful life. Along with this main goal, our volunteers help our veteran friends find work in demining teams. So I am confident that projects within this partnership will only expand.” After rehabilitation, veterans undergo retraining and then engage in humanitarian demining. Such integration enables soldiers to apply their combat experience to civilian life and, at the same time, secure stable employment, income, and overall faster adaptation to civilian life.
For humanitarian demining sappers, the Slots City Foundation covered the repair of Volkswagen T4 and Mercedes Vito 3 vehicles, purchased 3 inverters and 6 batteries. Volunteers also donated funds for the purchase of an Autel drone, 10 helmets, and bulletproof vests, for repairing special vehicles and spare parts for them.
Until now, the Foundation has been developing targeted assistance programs for the military and internally displaced persons, as well as repairing vehicles, drones, and watercraft for the army. For example, in 2023, volunteers of the Slots City Foundation collected over a thousand targeted shipments for the army and internally displaced persons. They primarily provided drones (511 new and over two thousand repaired in partnership with workshops), vehicles, and watercraft (purchased and repaired with friends and partners of the Foundation on the front lines), purchased equipment and gear for brigades, humanitarian aid for displaced persons and residents of settlements affected by hostilities. In addition, the Foundation assisted medics treating soldiers.
